Chippa United release one of their experienced midfielders

DStv Premiership side Chippa United has released one of their experienced midfielders ahead of the new season.

The Chilli Boys have been busy in the transfer market with some major signings and departures.

The club has already confirmed the signing of three former Orlando Pirates players in Luvuyo Memela, Augustine Mulenga and Craig Martin. Attacking midfielder Menzi Ndwandwe has also been roped in from now-defunct All Stars.

MESHACK MAPHANGULE RELEASED BY CHIPPA UNITED

News reaching FARPost is that the club has released Meshack Maphangule. The 31-year-old only featured nine times in all competitions.

Maphangule has been a journeyman since leaving Black Leopards in 2018. He went on to join Orlando Pirates but struggled for game time before being loaned to Chippa where he spent a season.

Maphangule went on to join Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila before he also left for Pretoria Callies. But with the return of coach Morgan Mammila Maphangule has been deemed surplus to requirements. He joins dribbling wizard Tshepo ‘Skhwama’ Matete. Matete has since returned to the Botswana Premier League where he has joined Township Rollers.

TOUGH OPENER FOR THE CHILLI BOYS

The Chilli Boys are set to open their 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign against Kaizer Chiefs. According to the draft fixture, the match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 5 August at FNB Stadium.

Their first five fixtures involve clashes against TS Galaxy, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town Spurs and Royal AM.

Chippa United narrowly survived relegation on the last day of the season, thanks to a 0-0 draw against Golden Arrows. They finished 14th equal on 30 points with Maritzburg United but had a superior goal difference. The team of Choice were subsequently relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
