Hugo Broos reflects on Bafana Bafana’s COSAFA Cup performance

Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup coach Morena Ramoreboli has revealed Hugo Broos’ impressions regarding the team’s performances at the recently concluded tournament.

South Africa secured a bronze medal after a 5-3 penalty shootout win over Malawi in the third-place playoffs on Sunday. The Cup was won by the Zambia national team who in the process also secured a record seventh title.

The squad coached by Ramoreboli who was assisted by Raymond Mdaka were impressive during the group stages. They finished top of the group that had the likes of Namibia, Botswana and Eswatini.

HUGO BROOS TRACKING COSAFA CUP PERFORMANCES

Although head coach of the Bafana team, Broos was not in Durban for the tournament, Ramoreboli has revealed that the Belgian has been following the matches and is happy with how the team played.

“We had a chat about the performance of the team,” Ramoreboli told the media.

“Obviously, when we are doing our analysis we look at all the challenges that we have. The good thing is that he had been following the games and he had seen the kind of players we are having here.

“It also gives him an opportunity to see where he can add because when you make your profile, the first thing that you do is to say I have this group that has been playing together for quite some time,” he said.

“So if the guy that is playing this COSAFA needs to come [to the senior team], obviously, there will be second or third best. But he is very happy with what he has seen.”

MORENA RAMOREBOLI ADMITS BAFANA BAFANA FELL SHORT

Ramoreboli is heading back to Botswana where he has to prepare his club Jwaneng Galaxy for the new CAF Champions League campaign. He does admit that the third-place finish was not enough but the team did well.

“Credit to the association and the technical team. We did our best despite all the challenges we had during our preparations. I am happy with what we did, getting the third spot. We could have done better but I am happy with the effort.”
