Richards Bay FC shed light on home-ground confusion

Richards Bay FC have addressed the confusion over their home ground for next season after the DStv Premiership fixtures were leaked.

The Natal Rich Boyz will kick off their second season in the top-tier with a trip to Pretoria. They will take on SuperSport United on Saturday, 05 August at 8:00 pm at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Thereafter, they will host Lamontville Golden Arrows in the KZN derby on Tuesday, 08 August at 5:00 pm. In the fixtures, uMhlathuze Sports appears as the venue for the match.

According to Richards Bay’s General Manager James Dlamini, when they filled out PSL forms, they had to choose uMhlathuze as their number one home ground since they will play most of their home games there.

However, Dlamini insisted they will use King Zwelithini Stadium for the first few games next season before they move back to Richards Bay.

“When we submitted PSL forms, we wrote [Umhlathuze Sports Complex] as our number one but those are still provisional fixtures,” Dlamini said when asked by FARPost.

“So, we still have a right to change because those are not final fixtures. We’re still going to start at Umlazi [King Zwelithini Stadium] as we said.

“In the final fixture, Umlazi will appear as our home ground. But we put Umhlathuze because, in the form, you have to write your number one home ground.

“But the stadium is not yet ready, that means we’ll use our number two for now which is King Zwelithini Stadium.”

Richards Bay will be looking to bounce back after they finished the season on a poor run. They had started off their debut campaign in the DStv Premiership on a high note, spending the most part of the first round in the second position.

They have a new head technical team after they sacked the previous head coach Vasili Manousakis and his assistant coaches Pitso Dladla and Ronnie Gabriel. Kaitano Tembo is the new head coach while Siboniso Gumede took up the assistant coach role.
