Cape Town City vehicle hijacked at gunpoint
A Cape Town City vehicle was hijacked at gunpoint on Nelson Mandela International Day.
The vehicle [Toyota Avanza] was carrying five City players and staff at the time of the incident.
The DStv Premiership side was travelling to give back to the community in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day when they were hijacked at gunpoint in Nyanga, a township in the Western Cape.
Unfortunately, the vehicle’s tracker was removed two minutes after the incident. Their belongings including boots, gadgets, and passports were taken.
Luckily, the players and staff are safe and unharmed. However, the victims were left very traumatised.

“Hi guys. It was five players and a coach. Held up at a gunpoint in Nyanga,” CT City head of football development Grant Veitch told Captured Sporting Moments.
“The Avanza tracker was removed two minutes after the hijacking. Thank goodness all the boys are okay. It’s just sad that we wanted to give back to the community by playing in the townships.”
Anyone who might have heard or seen anything is urged to contact the nearest police station. Cape Town is well-known for the highest rates of murder, robbery, and property-related crimes.
In the first quarter of the 2022/23 crime statistics, Cape Town Central topped the list of community-reported serious crimes top 30, with 49,8%.
CAPE TOWN CITY TO FACE POLOKWANE CITY IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON
The Citizens will kick off the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season against the newly promoted side Polokwane City at home, according to the PSL leaked draft fixtures.
City will be hoping to challenge for major trophies when the new season commences.
Last season, the Cape club finished fourth on the DStv Premiership log standings with 45 points after 30 games.
