Latest update on Eswatini trialist at Royal AM
Here is the latest update on Eswatini international Mxolisi Mkhonto who had a trial with Royal AM before the COSAFA Cup.
The midfielder was part of the team that took part in the regional tournament in Durban between 5 and 16 July. Eswatini couldn’t make it out of the group stages as they won only one game and lost the other two.
Mkhonto plies his trade at the Eswatini MTN Premier League champions Green Mamba FC. He was one of the standout performers as Mamba hoisted the Premier League last season.
He scored nine goals and recorded six assists and also scooped the Player of the Season award at the end of the campaign. Thereafter, he was invited by Thwihli Thwahla for an assessment in June.
He received a call-up to join the Eswatini squad that would play COSAFA while he was on trial at the Royal Ranch. It seems like he did well to impress the technical team of the KZN outfit as the club has recalled him again after COSAFA Cup.
LATEST UPDATE ON ESWATINI TRIALIST AT ROYAL AM
“He arrived at the club on Monday and began training with them on Tuesday,” the source told FARPost.
“Before COSAFA, he had already been told to come back. He can play both number six and eight but the national team was using him as a false nine.
“Royal AM want him as number six.”
Speaking to FARPost prior to COSAFA Cup, Mkhonto stated he believed he did well during his trial at AM. “Last week I was on trials with Royal AM and I did a good job there,” he said.
The 29-year-old could be a replacement for the defensive midfielder Lantshene Phalane who left Royal AM at the end of the season. However, that could also lean on whether the club is successful in fighting the transfer ban.
