Leletu Skelem back at his former club

Talented winger Leletu Skelem is training with his former club as he seeks to revive his career following a six-month rough patch.

The 25-year-old has been unattached since January following his departure from Maritzburg United in the middle of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

This was after an 18-month unprosperous stint with the Team of Choice. Skelem only managed to play 28 matches in the Midlands, starting only five and coming on as a substitute on 23 occasions.

He scored two goals and recorded two assists during his time in the KZN capital.

LELETU SKELEM BACK AT MARITZBURG UNITED

FARPost has learnt that he has returned to Maritzburg, who recently suffered relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship via the Playoffs. The former Stellenbosch FC star has already started training with the club as they prepare for their first season in the second-tier.

Meanwhile, the club has to also prepare for a life without some crucial players who are linked with an exit. This includes Rowan Human, who has attracted interest from multiple top-tier clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs are said to be in the pole in to land his signature. However, AmaZulu FC, SuperSport United, and Cape Town Spurs are also still in the picture, according to SABC Sport.

Genino Palace and Karim Kimvuidi are also on the radar of some clubs in the top-flight. And Maritzburg are likely to struggle to retain them as they’ll be competing in the lower division next season.

OTHER PLAYERS TRAINING WITH TEAM OF CHOICE

Moreover, the KZN outfit continues to welcome more players for assessment as they’re bolstering the squad for next season. As previously reported by FARPost, Tshepo Gumede and Michael Gumede are also trying their luck at the club.

The defender Tshepo Gumede was plying his trade at Marumo Gallants last season. Meanwhile, the striker Michael Gumede last played his football at Richards Bay FC in the previous campaign.

Lastly, Maritzburg have also welcomed back Zukile Kewuti who left SuperSport United at the end of the season.
