Riveiro identifies area for improvement after Pirates’ tour to Spain
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has identified one area his side needs to improve on following the conclusion of the club’s pre-season tour to Spain.
Pirates flew to Spain for their pre-season camp as preparations for the 2023/24 PSL season are still continuing.
The Sea Robbers played three matches against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Independiente del Valle and Las Palmas.
The Soweto giants had a great time in Spain as they were undefeated in all their preparatory matches. They recorded two victories and a draw.
WHAT ORLANDO PIRATES NEED TO IMPROVE ON
According to Riveiro, the Bucs need to be fully focused and concentrated during the entire match.
“We played against teams that forced you to play focused and concentrate during the 90 minutes,” said Riveiro. “It’s one of the aspects that we need to improve on this season, to be consistent during the 90.
“We are going to play many crucial knockout games where one mistake is killing your dreams, killing your hopes.
“So we need to play like the way we did against Las Palmas. The top team, top tier in La Liga, required a level of concentration that we are not used to in the domestic league.
“We learning a lot of lessons for the future little by little to be more competitive than we were last season.”
JOSE RIVEIRO’S ASSESSMENT ON ORLANDO PIRATES PRE-SEASON CAMP
Riveiro further gave his assessment on the pre-season as the Soweto giants return to South Africa to continue with their preparations.
“I think so far everything is positive, everything is going so well getting the introduction and the adaptation of new players in the group,” he added. “Now we are ready to go back to Joburg with a feeling that little-by-little we are a better team.
“So happy with the performance during the training camp. We had the opportunity to play three quality matches to represent Orlando Pirates and South African football. We did it in a professional way with very good performances.”
