AmaTuks announce 11 new signings

University of Pretoria(AmaTuks) have announced the signing of 11 new signing ahead of the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.

The Tshwane-based side have been hands on with the preparations for the new season and they released a handful of players.

AmaTuks parted company with Rodney Ramagalela, Kyle Peters, Blessing Mabasa, Khomotso Masia, Masixole Nkewana, Sibongakonke Gwaba, Vuyolwethu Dinge, Nhlanhla Zwane, Tristan Nikitaridis, Lungelo Nguse and Siphamandla Ncanana.

The axing of players comes after the team had an underwhelming showing in the 2022/23 campaign. They missed out on gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership.

AmaTuks finished eighth on the NFD log after winning nine games in the league, drawing 13 and losing eight times in 30 games. They accumulated 40 points.

With Tuks looking to increase their chances of gaining promotion to the elite league, they welcomed 11 new faces.

Amongst players who were signed by the Students is Edward Maova, Bongolwethu Siyasi, Ayanda Dlamini, Athenkosi Tonisi, Sihle Gum, Tshepang Makara, Sapholwethu Kelepu, Tebogo Makungo, Thulani Zandamela, Siyavuya Mdevulana, and Thabang Sibanyoni.

Meanwhile, Sibanyoni joins Tuks for his second loan spell after spending the 2021/22 season with the club.

The attacker was part of the AmaTuks team that finished as runners-up behind Richards Bay FC two seasons ago.

Sibanyoni spent the last season on loan with at SuperSport United but he couldn’t establish himself as a regular starter under Gavin Hunt. He featured in 14 matches in all competitions for Matsatsantsa and scored only one goal.

Furthermore, Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs are the two teams that gained promotion to the PSL. In addition, Maritzburg United and Marumo Gallants fell down to the second tier.
