Mgwazela linked with Gauteng side amid TS Galaxy interest

Former AmaZulu FC defender Samkelo Mgwazela has been linked with the PSL club based in Gauteng amid TS Galaxy’s interest.

It is understood the 23-year-old will be part of the “mass clearout” from Usuthu ahead of the new season. The club’s president Sandile Zungu stated they would have 11 departures when the past season came to an end.

Lehlohonolo Majoro has already left the club and is yet to find a new home. Meanwhile, Keagan Buchanan has signed with newly-promoted Cape Town Spurs.

Dumisani Zuma, on the other side, has signed for Moroka Swallows following his exit from the KwaZulu-Natal club.

FARPost previously reported that TS Galaxy were chasing the services of Mgwazela. They were close to wrapping up the deal, but it seems like there’s been a twist.

The Durban-born defender has been training with SuperSport United while they had a camp in KZN. And according to a source, Gavin Hunt was impressed and would like to have him at his disposal.

“He’s been training with SuperSport as they were here in Durban for camp. And Gavin Hunt is interested in signing him, now it’s up to the club.”

SuperSport have already completed a number of signings as they’re preparing for the 2023/24 season busy schedule. Matsatsantsa, along with Sekhukhune United, will represent South Africa in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Swanky Boys secured the spot in the competition by virtue of finishing the season in third position in the DStv Premiership standings. On the other hand, Babina Noko reached the 2022/23 Nedbank Cup final.

Hunt’s side has signed Abdurazak Hamza, Washington Arubi, Phathutshedzo Nange, Ronald Pfumbidza and Godspower Ighodaro. They have also retained Siphesihle Ndlovu and Grant Margeman on permanent deals as the duo was playing for the side on loan last season.
