Ntseki explains why Chiefs will not ‘close door’ yet in transfer market

Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has explained why the club will not ‘close the door’ just yet in the transfer market, insisting that bolstering the squad remains a top priority.

Ntseki, who was most recently appointed Amakhosi’s new coach, has not ruled out more signings as he embarks on a journey to bring back the old glory days at Naturena.

In the rebuilding process, the Soweto giants’ management has backed Ntseki by signing seven new players so far this season.

These signings include Tebogo Potsane [Royal AM], Pule Mmodi [Golden Arrows], Ranga Chivaviro [Marumo Gallants]. They also acquired Given Msimango [TS Galaxy], Mduduzi Mdantsane [Cape Town City], Edson Daniel Castillo Garcia [Monagas SC] and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe [SuperSport United].

Ntseki revealed that even with the numerous signings Chiefs have now, they are still looking for quality players who would fit his style of play.

“For a team of Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre, I don’t see a house full of good players, and then you close the door before any good player that might be coming,’ said Ntseki.

The former Bafana Bafana coach uttered these words during the launch of the eagerly anticipated 2023/24 DStv Premiership season on Wednesday in Johannesburg.

“Results will always come in and out, and then some results are not what you want. And also, I have learned for the past 25 years as a coach that there are three moments in football that can determine whether you succeed or you fail.

“Good players, at times, lose form. You have to get a replacement for that. Good players, at times, get injured; you need to have somebody ready to do the job. And also good players get suspended, you need to get somebody ready to take over,” added Ntseki.

In addition, Ntseki outlined a factor he and his technical team need to master in the upcoming season as they will attempt to clinch a trophy for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

“I think the most important thing going into this season is for us to have a proper squad balance,” he declared.

“We have done a very good squad audit, and it means that if there is ever a need to bring in somebody to give more impetus to the team, we will do that.”
