Cassius Mailula completes his move to Toronto

Cassius Mailula has completed his move to the Major Soccer League [MLS] club Toronto FC.

The Bafana Bafana talented winger joins Toronto from the Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

He has signed a three -year deal until 2026, with an option to extend for another season.

Mailula will be added to the roster as a part of the Toronto’s U-22 Initiative, pending his medicals, work visa and the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate [ITC] .

The North American side’s general manager Jason Hernandez expressed his delight to have managed to acquire the services of the Limpopo-born star. 

“We are very excited to welcome Cassius to our club and the city,” said Hernandez. 

“He is a player that will bring a different dimension to our play on the pitch with his versatility, dynamic movement, and finishing ability with both feet. 

“He will also provide us with a new young profile off the pitch, with his humility, grit, and ambition to reach the highest levels possible. 

“We look forward to working with Cassius and are happy to have him in the TFC family.”

Last season, Mailula banged 15 goals in 31 appearances for Bafana Ba Style across all competitions. He weighed in with four assists in the process. 

The last term was Mailula’s first season with Sundowns’ first team, after his stellar displays in the junior ranks. 

To put a cherry on top, the winger helped the Masandawana secure their sixth consecutive PSL title. 

His impressive performances at the Brazilians caught the eyes of Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos. The Belgian mentor then decided to include the star player in the national team. 

Mailula made his Bafana debut in the AFCON qualifiers against Liberia on the 24th of March 2023, where he came on as a substitute.

The winger will be expected to add the much-needed experience to his new team. And at the same time, guide the side to the promised land.
