SuperSport United sign Bafana Bafana defender
SuperSport United have confirmed the acquisition of Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu ahead of the upcoming season.
The ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender joins Matsatsantsa on a two-year deal with an option to renew.
Xulu was in the books of Turan T IK [Azerbaijan] where he featured in 25 games for the side last campaign.
The experienced centre-back also represented the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Rostov in Russia, Maritzburg United and Hapoel Tel Aviv of Israel.
The 31-year-old footballer boasts 25 caps for the South African senior national football team.
He was very instrumental in helping Bafana to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to be held in Ivory Coast next year January.
SIYANDA XULU ON JOINING SUPERSPORT UNITED
The defender expressed his gratitude to have joined the Tshwane giants ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season.
“I am feeling very grateful. It’s another opportunity to play at home which is something that I needed now,” said Xulu on his unveiling.
“When you get to this age, the one thing you need the most is stability. SuperSport United gave me what I needed at the right time. I’m very excited for the new journey.
“The reason why I joined the club is because I saw a team that was headed in the right direction. I need the other guys to help me get organised just, so we can get to business.”
GAVIN HUNT ON HAVING SIYANDA XULU ON BOARD
Meanwhile, SuperSport head coach Gavin Hunt added that: “I think he is someone who can fit in well in the club.”
“Xulu has a lot of experience. He wants to do it and I have known him for a very long time. He can also help out with the younger players that we’ve got.
“We can try to form a very good combination. He’s a big signing for us and I’m happy that he’s here. He is tough, quick and a great defender.
“Good character as well which is needed in that position. He’s number one in Bafana which is a great signing for the club.”
