Ex-Sekhukhune United goalkeeper returns to his former club

Former Sekhukhune United goalkeeper has returned home after he was released by the club ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season.

Zambian shot-stopper Toaster Nsabata has returned to Zesco United on a two-year deal.

Nsabata joined Babina Noko back in August 2021 from the Zambian side, Zesco.

The 29-year-old goal-minder struggled for game time last campaign following the acquisition of Ivorian goalie Ali Sangare.

Last season, Nsabata only featured in 10 games for the Limpopo club across all competitions. He conceded eight goals and managed to keep three clean sheets.

Nsabata was not the only player offloaded by Brandon Truter’s side. The club also released 17 other players ahead of the upcoming season.

OTHER PLAYERS RELEASED BY SEKHUKHUNE UNITED

The other players who were let go by the club are Victor Letsoalo, Sammy Seabi, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Sello Motsepe, Given Mashikinya, Denwin Farmer, Abednego Mosiatlaga, Train Mokhabi, Seth Parusnath, Prince Nxumalo, Tlotlo Leepile, and Philani Zulu.

To add to that list, Nsabata’s fellow countryman Roderick Kabwe was also released alongside Mzwanele Mahashe, Siyabulela Shai, Tashreeq Morris, and Nkanyiso Madonsela.

Sekhukhune had a fantastic 2022/23 season, having played in the Nedbank Cup final to book a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup. To put a cherry on top, the side also finished in the top eight in the DStv Premiership.

As a result, Babina Noko will see themselves competing in five competitions in the new season. The side will be hoping to challenge for some major titles given the quality of the squad they have.

So far, Sekhukhune have signed Siphesihle Mkhize, Jamie Webber, Mbhazima Rikhotso, Tiklas Thutlwa, Renaldo Leaner, Thabang Mnyembane, Kgothatso Mariba, Vincent Mashego and Thabo Nkwana.

Sekhukhune will face the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in their first league match of the campaign. The game will take place on Friday, 4 August 2023 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
