Molefi Ntseki: “It’s a big concern…”
Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has singled out his one big concern ahead of the new DStv Premiership season.
Chiefs lost 1-0 to Botswana’s Township Rollers in a friendly match played at the National Stadium in Gaborone on Saturday.
Last weekend, Amakhosi were on the losing side again when they faced Tanzania’s Young Africans in Dar es Salaam. They lost 1-0 meaning they have not scored in their final two friendly matches of the pre-season.
WHAT IS MOLEFI NTSEKI’S BIG CONCERN
Of course, Molefi would have taken some positives from the Gaborone game as his charges created a lot of chances.
However, they were unable to convert. On the contrary, against Yanga SC, Chiefs did not create a single scoring opportunity.
Speaking to SuperSport TV at halftime, Ntseki said he was worried about the lack of goals ahead of the new season.
“It’s a big concern because when we create chances, we have to bury those chances. And if we don’t create chances, it means there’s a problem in terms of our creativity in the last third,” Molefi told SuperSport.
Molefi will be hoping to add a new forward to the squad before the start of the season. The club’s newly signed forward Ranga Chivaviro has missed the last two preparatory matches.
Chivaviro is out nursing an injury and Amakhosi are going all out to find a centre forward who will share the striking responsibilities with the former Marumo Gallants man.
Malawi’s talisman Gabadinho Mhango has been singled out as that man, with his club AmaZulu FC and Chiefs having already agreed a transfer fee.
The Soweto giants will begin their 2023/24 season with a match against Chippa United on August 5 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Molefi’s concerns come as Chiefs fans are growing increasingly impatient for the club to start winning trophies again.
The Glamour Boys have not won a league title since 2015 and the former Bafana Bafana coach is under pressure to deliver results this season.
Only time will tell whether Molefi can turn things around at Chiefs. But one thing is certain, he will need to address the goal-scoring concerns if he wants to challenge for trophies this season.
