Banyana team doctor issues Refiloe Jane’s injury update
Banyana Banyana team doctor Nthabiseng Maesela has issued the latest injury update on Refiloe Jane.
‘Fifi’ suffered the setback during their 2-2 draw with Argentina in their FIFA Women’s World Cup clash at Forsyth Barr Stadium Stadium on Friday.
This comes after the game at Forsyth Barr Stadium got physical, which saw skipper, Jane, suffering an injury after a collision in the 22nd minute of the showdown.
Jane couldn’t recover from the collision. She was then replaced by Kholosa Biyana in the 25th minute of the contest.
The talented Banyana captain sustained a soft tissue injury.
It was initially feared that the midfield maestro might be ruled out for the prestigious tournament.
However, the team doctor has since confirmed that Jane’s injury is not that serious, as the scan showed that the injury is minor.
NTHABISENG MAESELA GIVES REFILOE JANE’S INJURY UPDATE
“Refiloe is doing well. After going for a scan it was confirmed that she sustained a soft tissue injury,” said the team doctor.
The South African fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, as Malesela added that the midfielder “should be back on the field soon.”
Maesela went on to state that there are no other injuries within the team and “everyone is healthy.”
“I can further confirm that there are no other injuries or illnesses within the team,” she added.
“Everyone is healthy and ready to continue with preparations for our final group match against Italy on Wednesday.”
BANYANA BANYANA’S NEXT ASSIGNMENT
South Africa will play their last group stage encounter against Italy on Wednesday, 2 August 2023.
The match will take place at Wellington Regional Stadium, with the kick-off set for 9:00 [South African time].
Banyana will be hoping to win the game in order to progress to the knockout stage of the prestigious tournament after Sweden gave them a lifeline by defeating Italy 5-0 on Saturday.
