Golden Arrows add firepower with signing of exciting 23-year-old

Golden Arrows have added firepower upfront with the signing of a 23-year-old forward on a long-term deal ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

Arrows finished ninth last season and hope to improve on that position in the 2023/24 campaign.

The club has roped in former JDR Stars and Tuks striker Nhlanhla Zwane on what sources say is a “long-term deal”.

The pacy striker primarily plays as a centre forward but can be deployed on either side in a three-man attack. Zwane thrives on his pace and eye for goal. He is also good at linking up with his teammates and creating chances.

GOLDEN ARROWS ADD ANOTHER STRIKER

His arrival in Durban gives Arrows another option up front as he learns from the club’s talisman, Knox Mutizwa.

“They’ve signed him on a long-term deal after a month-long trial where he impressed. The idea for the club is so that he learns from Knox and grows on from there,” the source told FARPost.

His mercurial rise has seen him move from the ABC Motsepe League three years ago to the second tier and now the topflight.

In the 2021/22 season, while turning out for FC Maginim, he put up a five-star performance against the Orbit College FC during the Nedbank Cup preliminary round.

Zwane was introduced in the second half of that game. Within minutes, he waltzed past a cluster of defenders and scored a grass cutter. Midway through that season, he was snapped up by JDR before joining Tuks the following season.

At Tuks, he scored three goals despite playing a bit-part role in his first full season with the club.

POTENTIAL TO IMPROVE

The Koster-born star is also young and has the potential to improve even further. His signing shows that Arrows have a long-term plan, with Mutizwa constantly attracting interest from big teams.

His arrival is expected to put pressure on the other strikers in the Arrows squad. It will also give the club more flexibility in their attacking play. Arrows hope Zwane can chip in with goals in the coming season to lessen the burden on the Zimbabwean international.
