Grant Magerman eyes Bafana call-up

Highly-rated Grant Magerman has his eyes set on a Bafana Bafana jersey after sealing a permanent move to SuperSport United from crosstown rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Grant Magerman recently penned a three-year deal with Matsatsantsa following an unsuccessful stint at Sundowns.

The midfielder had spent the 2022/23 season on loan at SuperSport, where he impressed and enjoyed his football under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt.

In SuperSport colours last campaign, Margeman contributed two goals and three assists in 26 matches in the DStv Premiership.

Due to his efforts, he walked away with the Player’s Player of the Season at SuperSport’s end-of-the-season award ceremony.

Margeman said it is about time he shines in order to put his hand up for Bafana selection ahead of the AFCON tournament set to be staged in Ivory Coast next year.

“It’s always good to represent the national team,” he said. “Last season, I got called up but did not make it in the final squad. Obviously the last camp, I got injured in the last game of the league, so I couldn’t go to the camp.

“But for me, it’s one of the goals I look forward to. Be a part of the national team. So, now, as the league starts, I want to push myself and continue from last season.

“I want to do better and keep better standards. So hopefully, when the coach announces the squad, I’ll be there with him,” added Margeman.

In addition, the midfielder reflected on his loan stints away from Sundowns. Margeman acknowledged that it is not good for a player to change clubs every season.

Sundowns had loaned him out to Swallows FC before SuperSport, a club he has since joined permanently.

“As a player, you don’t want to go out on loan every season and change clubs,” he admitted. “So, I made a decision to make a permanent move, and I think it’s a good move for me.

“I think now that I am stable at the club, it gives me a bit more comfort to know that I will be here for the next couple of seasons. “So as soon as a player is comfortable, that’s automatically when he expresses himself more when he wants to give more for the team, for everyone that is involved.

“For me now, it’s just to obviously see what I can do on the field to express myself more and see my ability on what I can offer to the team”.
