New role for Surprise Moriri at Sundowns 

DStv Premiership reigning Champions Mamelodi Sundowns have announced a new role for club legend Surprise Moriri.

Moriri has been in charge of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side for some time now. 

The 43-year-old has played for the PSL club from 2004 until 2016. The club said in a statement on Monday that Moriri will now take charge of the club’s under U/19 team.

“During the past season, Surprise Moriri was the Coach of Mamelodi Sundowns Diski team which was 6th on the Diski log table. 

“The Youth and Academy structures of Mamelodi Sundowns which includes 13 year old recruits is important and is part of the development and investment commitments for the future of Mamelodi Sundowns.”

ANNOUNCEMENT ON ACADEMY COACHES TO FOLLOW 

“Mamelodi Sundowns will make announcements in due course regarding Academy Coaches that have been recruited and employed,” the club said. 

Amongst his coaching qualifications, Moriri completed the Nelson Mandela University/FIFA/CIES Executive Progamme in Sport Management. This is a programme aimed at students with the broadest possible vision of management in modern sports.

He completed the course in 2021 and also possesses SAFA and CAF Licenses.

Meanwhile, It has been widely reported that former All Stars head coach Sinethemba Badela will be taking over the role of the DDC side. The highly-rated coach was also linked with a move to Chippa United.

The 33-year-old missed out on a promotion playoff spot after finishing fourth. This is despite the well-documented problems faced by Stars before they were sold to Black Leopards. 

Downs have been adding some new faces to the technical team setup since coach Rulani Mokwena took over. Michael Loftman has been roped in as set-piece coach.  

Mathias Zangenberg was appointed head of Physical Performance while Kennedy Mweene is the latest addition to the backroom staff as an assistant goalkeeper coach.
