Siphamandla Maseko’s move to PSL takes twist

The potential move of Eswatini midfield sensation Siphamandla Maseko to the PSL has taken a surprise twist with one week ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season.

Maseko had attracted interest both in the DStv Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship. This was after an exhilarating campaign he had at his former side Denver Sundowns, who compete in the Eswatini MTN Premier League.

Last season, he was one of the mainstays for Kappa Boys, who finished eighth on the log standings. During the early days of the current pre-season, he trained with Marumo Gallants, who suffered relegation to the second-tier last season.

As reported by FARPost, at the time, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa looked impressed by his showings during his trial at the club.

He was, thereafter, invited by the newly-promoted DStv Premiership outfit Polokwane City to take part in one of their friendly games. This was when Rise and Shine faced Cape Town City FC in July.

However, it seems like both City and Gallants have decided against securing the midfielder’s services.

Further, following his return to Eswatini, Maseko has been with Mbabane Swallows who are rumoured to have signed him.

He was part of the squad that travelled to South Africa for the Mangosuthu Legacy Cup this past Saturday. Swallows suffered a 2-1 defeat to AmaZulu FC.

POLOKWANE CITY SIGNINGS SO FAR

While they have made a U-turn on Maseko, City have signed Oswin Appollis, Given Mashikinya, Luciano van Heerden, Nyakala Raphadu, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Tlou Nkwe, Francious Baloyi and Kgotsofalu Mabu.

They will kick off their season with a trip to Cape Town City on Sunday, 6 August. The match will take place at Athlone Stadium at 15:00.
