Petersen on what makes Castillo a perfect signing for Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has singled out what makes midfield maestro Edson Castillo a perfect signing for the club.
Castillo is one of the new acquisitions that the Soweto giants brought in to bolster the squad ahead of the 2023/24 PSL campaign.
The Venezuelan international is flexible in the midfield, as he can play as a number six and a number eight.
WHAT MAKES EDSON CASTILLO A GOOD FIT FOR KAIZER CHIEFS
According to Petersen, the talented midfielder has a great vision and is good on the ball. He expects the 29-year-old to be bossing the midfield once he has gelled in the team.
“Quality, I haven’t seen a player like him in a while, his vision, just his understanding. There is a language barrier, but as soon as you explain something to him with the ball, he gets it like that and does it,” said Petersen.
“I think a lot of people had glimpses of him in the two friendlies we played on TV. There is a lot more to expect from him.
“He’s one of the players who can pick a pass out of nowhere that only he sees. I’m actually excited to be playing with him, just see him doing things for the team this season.”
PETERSEN ON WHETHER CASTILLO IS THE MISSING LINK FOR CHIEFS
Petersen believes Castillo will show whether he was the missing link in the midfield in his first few matches after adjusting to South African football.
“I think only time will tell, we’ll see in the first few games when he’s in his prime. We’ll see if he was the missing link. I can’t say for sure, let’s hope he’s missing in the puzzle and can fit there.
Castillo is expected to feature when the Glamour Boys host Chippa United in their league opener on Sunday, 6 August. Kickoff at Moses Mabhida Stadium is at 3 p.m.
