SAFA clubs organise a march to remove a senior leader
Football clubs in the SAFA Capricorn Region have organised a march to demand the removal of regional chairperson Jacky Mogashoa.
SAFA in the region and the Limpopo province as a whole were left embarrassed this past weekend when the promotion playoffs were called off.
There has been a dispute in the region over who is the rightful winner to qualify for the playoffs to the ABC Motsepe League.
Two clubs, FC Lebash and Mohlabile United, were involved in inter-playoffs 2022/2023 against each other on 11 June 2023. The match ended in a draw, and the results meant Lebash were the regional winners.
But Lebash were accused of using an illegible player during the match and charged. They then appealed the decision at SAFA National and the decision of the Regional Disciplinary Committee of Capricorn.
DRAMA AT THE LIMPOPO PLAYOFFS
But Mohlabile took the matter to SAFA arbitration which ruled in their favour. Despite this, the region maintained that Lebash should represent the province at the playoffs held in Tzaneen, Limpopo. To everyone’s surprise, both teams pitched up for the playoffs and refused to leave the field.
SAFA had to cancel the two-day matches after spectators had also reacted angrily to the two teams’ actions.
CLUBS MARCH TO DEMAND REMOVAL OF JACKY MOGASHOA
In the latest development, the clubs in the region have now created a group in which a march is being organised for Friday, 4 August, at the SAFA Capricorn headquarters.
“Agenda shall be drafted on the said meeting, but it is obvious that on the said day we are removing the current SAFA Capricorn Region President [Jacky Mogashoa] from his position,” read a message seen by FARPost by one of the clubs.
“He has done enough damage, and we are therefore calling this meeting to pave the way forward. We are fully aware that amongst us, we have a lot of spies that will tell him our intentions.
“We are therefore saying that they must go on and tell him we are not making it a secret that on Friday, he will no longer be the president of SAFA Capricorn Region,” read the message.
FARPost reached out to Jacky Mogashoa for a response, but he declined. The Capricorn Region is home to PSL clubs such as Polokwane City, Magesi FC and Baroka FC.
