Keagan Buchanan names Spurs teammate who’ll benefit from his experience

Cape Town Spurs midfielder Keagan Buchanan has named one teammate he believes will benefit from his experience.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC midfielder joined Spurs, marking his return home to the Mother City.

He is confident his presence at the newly promoted club will benefit 27-year-old midfielder Morne Nel. “I think we’ve got a very good team, a great crop of young players,” Buchanan told FARPost.

HOW KEAGAN BUCHANAN BELIEVES MORNE NEL WILL BENEFIT

“Being a more experienced player, I’ll be there to help them adapt, try to help players. My game is to bring out the best in other people, having the younger guys like maybe Morne [Nel]. My job is to help them.

“We need to share the load in terms of creativity and being on the ball so that we can maybe see more of Morne on the ball, not too much of always just off the ball.

“In general, I would like to add my experience and help the team win as many games as possible.”

The 32-year-old Buchanan also spoke about his departure from AmaZulu FC last season.

“Last season, I started the season pretty well, and obviously when ‘Brakkies’ [Brandon Truter] left, and the new coach came, there was a bit of a change of guard,” Buchanan added.

“Different players were brought in, which is expected in the game. But it put a damper on a season that would have been a good one for me.

“Then, as you know, I went back and played the last few games and returned home at the end of the season. Being there for almost two months of the season did me good because I got a lot of my fitness back.

ABOUT COMING HOME

“Coming home, I started pre-season, so I’m feeling strong. My fitness is where I want it to be. I can only improve as the games go along, but I’m happy to be home.”

He will now look for a good season with the Cape Town outfit. Meanwhile, Spurs unveiled their new kit, new shoe sponsor Monosi Movements on a three-year partnership.

They also revealed the 2023/24 squad for the DStv Premiership season, which included English goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom as cover for Aden Dreyer, who could leave the club.

The 20-year-old Dreyer is on trial at Swedish top-flight side Hammarby IF, hoping to land a move to the Allsvenskan league.
