La Masia to test Mauritius in international friendly match

Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit NB La Masia FC [MM Platinum] will play an international friendly match against the Mauritius national team on August 10.

The match, slated for the Pirates Club in Johannesburg, is being used as a preparatory tie by both teams.

NB La Masia are gearing up for the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign. They have been busy with their pre-season preparations for several weeks ahead of the new season.

WHEN LA MASIA PLAY MAURITIUS

“We’re playing the Mauritius national team on the 10th of August as we prepare for the new season,” La Masia chairman Nazeer Baker confirmed to FARPost.

Mauritius, who are in Group D of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, are getting themselves ready for the qualifying campaign that roars to life in November. They are in the same group as Cameroon, Cape Verde, Angola, Libya and Eswatini.

Ranked 48th on the continent, Mauritius will be searching for their first-ever qualification for the World Cup finals.

Club M, as they are affectionately known, have qualified once for the Africa Cup of Nations, in 1974 where they were eliminated in the group stages.

Baker believes the match is sure to be a great opportunity for both teams to test themselves against international opposition. It will also be a chance for NB La Masia to showcase their readiness for the new season.

TEST THEIR STRENGTH

MM Platinum are getting into their second season in the second tier. In their maiden season, they finished 13th and are looking to put up a more improved run.

They won eight of their matches and drew eight times while losing 14. They will be looking to use the friendly match against Mauritius to test their strength against international opposition.
