Bafana winger can’t stop scoring in the MLS
Bafana Bafana winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane has earned himself a new nickname at Minnesota United as he can’t stop scoring in Major League Soccer [MLS].
Hlongwane continued his excellent scoring form after notching yet another brace for the Major League side in the League Cup.
This was his third brace on the trot as he slowly turns into Minnesota United’s veritable goal machine.
The brace lifts the former DStv Premiership player to 12 goals this season in all competitions. With six goals in the cup competition, Hlongwane is even ahead of Lionel Messi, who has five goals.
And that has rightly earned him the ‘Mr. Leagues Cup’ tag at the ambitious Minnesota United.
Minnesota United beat Columbus Crew on penalties after a 3-3 draw in a thrilling League Cup Round of 32 encounter.
HOW THE BONGOKUHLE HLONGWANE PERFORMED
As always, Minnesota United were hyper-offensive, with Bafana Bafana winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane notching yet another brace.
They surged ahead after 17 minutes when Hlongwane finished off a clinical counterattack that gave them an early advantage.
Columbus Crew responded after 42 minutes through Malte Amundsen. They then took the lead in the 51st-minute courtesy of Alex Matan.
And the Bafana winger, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, restored parity three minutes later. The former Maritzburg United star concluded a swift move that was engineered by Emanuel Reynoso and Teemu Pukki.
Christian Ramirez scored Columbus Crew’s third goal seven minutes from time. But Hlongwane and Reyneso remained constant thorns in the Crew’s side in search of an equaliser.
And it was Hassani Dotson who got the job done with a last-gasp strike, before Minnesota United dispatched Columbus Crew 4-3 on penalties.
Overall, the ex-Maritzburg United attacker has featured in 25 games across all competitions for Minnesota this term.
Looking at the recent performances, it is without a doubt that the Bafana winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane is South Africa’s man of the moment.
