Itumeleng Khune’s biggest wish before retirement
Veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has revealed his biggest wish for Kaizer Chiefs before he hangs up his gloves in football.
Chiefs offered Khune a new one-year contract ahead of the 2023/ 24 DStv Premiership. The club further announced that the deal will be his last contract before he retires.
The former Bafana Bafana international is set to take up a role in the Amakhosi technical team and marketing department in the future.
Khune is the longest-serving player at Chiefs after he was promoted from the club’s development structures in the 2004/05 season.
The 36-year-old shot-stopper has struggled to play regular football at Chiefs in the past few seasons as he battled with injuries. He also had a dip in form.
In the previous Premiership season, Khune featured in 13 games in all competitions for Chiefs under Arthur Zwane.
With the talented goalie in the final stages of his playing career, he has said that he wants to win silverware for Chiefs before he retires.
The Soweto giants last won a trophy back in the 2014/15 season when they clinched the league title under Stuart Baxter.

“One more trophy delivered to the chairman’s [Kaizer Motaung] office. I think that will make me the happiest player in the whole world,” Khune said on Gagasi FM.
“For the past eight years, it’s been hurting that what we are used to, which is winning trophies, hasn’t happened.
“But like I’m saying, I’m not ready to retire. If I had to win or lead the team to win that one silverware this season, I think I might call it quits and give the responsibility to Brandon[Petersen], Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe.
“I think 20 years of my service to the club hasn’t gone unnoticed, and I think I’ve done enough. When I decide to retire, I can do that with pleasure because honestly, as a player, I’ve ticked all boxes.”
Chiefs will kick off their new season with a DStv Premiership clash against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
