Mamelodi Sundowns look set to seal a major sponsorship deal with a multinational firm with a global football club network.
Sundowns have been the most successful club on the local scene in the last decade. The 2022/23 DStv Premiership league title was their sixth successive, marking their recent dominance on the local scene.
Exactly two years ago, Sundowns partnered with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, whose responsibility is to give the Brazilians access to commercial platforms and opportunities.
MAJOR SPONSORSHIP DEAL BECKONING FOR SUNDOWNS
On Sunday, 6 August 2023, Red Bull officials were spotted arriving at Chloorkop, where the two parties were set to finalise a deal. An announcement is expected to follow.
Although the terms of the deal are yet to be revealed, it is thought that Red Bull will become the club’s official energy drink partner.
Sundowns also have a global nutrition company, Herbalife Nutrition, which supports the club with a range of nutrition, wellness, and sports-performance products.
The Red Bull sponsorship is a major coup for Sundowns. The Tshwane giants are fast building a reputation for being a revered club on the continent.
STRONG PRESENCE IN SPORT
Red Bull is a global brand with a strong presence in the sports world. The company sponsors several top teams in various sports, including Formula One, Formula E, and Red Bull Racing.
Red Bull also owns four soccer teams that are part of the firm’s Global Soccer franchise. They all adhere to an identical philosophy and approach to the game.

FC Red Bull Salzburg [Bundesliga, Austria]
New York Red Bulls [MLS, USA]
RB Leipzig [Bundesliga, Germany]
Red Bull Bragantino [Série A, Brazil]
The sponsorship with Mamelodi Sundowns would be Red Bull’s first major foray into South African football. The company has been involved in the Red Bull Kasi Cup, aiming to spotlight up-and-coming football in South Africa.
However, the Downs deal would further boost its brand awareness in the country.
The sponsorship deal is a significant boost for Sundowns, who are looking to defend their DStv Premiership title.
With Red Bull’s backing, Masandawana will also look to make a deep run in the CAF Champions League.
