Jose Mourinho’s passionate message to Zimbabwean giants
Legendary coach Jose Mourinho has sent a passionate message to Zimbabwean giants Highlanders, who are thriving well under the tutelage of his former assistant, Baltermar Brito.
The ‘Special One’ as Jose Mourinho is fondly known, has been following the progress of his former partner Baltermar Brito, who breathed life into a sleeping giant, Highlanders.
The Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, worked with Baltermat Brito at Chelsea and Real Madrid, where they won big international accolades.
These include the coveted UEFA Champions League, among other cups. And Brito has transformed Highlanders into a dreaded juggernaut in Zimbabwe’s PSL.
HOW HIGHLANDERS HAVE FARED THIS SEASON
The Bulawayo-based side sit comfortably at the summit of the Zimbabwean league with 38 points on their tally.
They boost a healthy five-point cushion ahead of their closest rivals Ngezi Platinum. Under Brito, this season, Highlanders only conceded four times in 18 matches. And they remain the only undefeated team in the 2023 season.
Without a doubt, Highlanders believe that Brito can mastermind the end of their 17-year run without a league title.
Their confidence has been further oiled by legendary coach Jose Mourinho who spoke glowingly about Baltermar Brito.
WHAT THE LEGENDARY COACH JOSE MOURINHO SAID
In a one-minute video sent to the club, Jose Mourinho said: “Hello, everyone at Highlanders. I’m sending you a message because Mr Brito is my brother.
“We fought together for many years. We won many trophies together. He has always been my brother, and I’m so happy that he is doing a great job at Highlanders.
“I want to wish you the best for that game against Kariba [ZPC Kariba]. You are on top of the log, and hopefully, you Highlanders can have an impact to help the future of the Zimbabwean national team.”
Highlanders played out to a 0-0 draw against Kariba in a league clash at the Nyamhunga Stadium on Saturday.
It will be interesting to see how Brito will finish the season which has 16 games left to play. Brito was voted as the July coach of the month.
Highlanders will also take part in the 2023 Chibuku Super Cup, which roars into life on Wednesday.
