Agent details Irvin Khoza’s decisive approach to lure Ronwen Williams to Pirates
Renowned football agent Rob Moore has detailed the decisive approach by Orlando Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza to lure Ronwen Williams to his club.
Williams was on the radar of Pirates before choosing to join Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
The Bafana Bafana shot-stopper joined Masandawana from SuperSport United. He was named Goalkeeper of the Season in his first season at Chloorkop.
Prior to joining the Tshwane giants, Williams was on the wishlist of Pirates and his agent has detailed how Khoza went the extra mile to sign the goalie.

“Irvin Khoza was really keen to sign Ronwen Williams and he got in a car himself to go meet Ronwen. He laid out what he has on his mind for the player to come to Pirates,” Moore told TIFA
“I was really impressed by that, I thought it was unbelievable. He [Irvin Khoza] respects the culture with the smallest things.
“He spoke to Williams and said at the end of the day you’re national team captain, if you join Pirates I need to look at that. That’s something I need to look at with regards to the role you play in my club.
“That gives you an idea that he’s a guy who looks at bigger things and other things. The bottom line is that he doesn’t mess around.
“When he wants something he’s someone who’ll negotiate very quickly and get to the bottom of it.
“In that regard, he’s much quicker than Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns, that’s why I have a lot of respect for him,”
Moore further explained why Sundowns eventually won the race to sign Williams despite Pirates being more serious.

“To be fair, the questions Williams had 15 to 18 months ago were at that stage Pirates came off a poor season. It was just about where is the ship heading at that time.
“So that was a question from Ronwen Williams even though the chairman assured him that Pirates means business.”
