Morgan Mammila: ‘Other coaches haven’t done that’

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila believes he hasn’t been given enough credit since becoming a coach last of last season.

Mammila was a football administrator both at Baroka FC and Chippa United. He then turned into a coach towards the end of the 2021/22 season.

He started as an assistant coach to Kurt Lentjies prior to serving in the same role under Daine Klate. Following the sacking of Klate, he took the reins at the Chilli Boys and amassed 19 points in 14 games.

Mammila later joined Swallows as a Technical Advisor and believes he played a major role in the club winning four games consecutively. Having returned to Chippa for the second time, he was in charge in their first league game against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday. The match ended in a goalless draw.

Speaking to the media after the match, Mammila said he feels that people are still doubtful of him despite what he has achieved.

MAMMILA ON WHAT HE HAS MANAGED TO DO AS A COACH

“Maybe you guys need to get calculators because you come here not having calculations,” said Mammila.

“If I ask you how many points did I collect last season? At Chippa, I collected 19 points from 14 games. And I went to Swallows, that team had never won two games in a row [before I came] the entire season.

“I helped them win four games in a row, how many points is that? 12 plus one against Sundowns, 13. Do the calculations, 13 plus 19 is 32 points.

“Now, let’s calculate the matches…14 matches plus six is 20 matches. In 20 matches, you get 32 points…Other coaches haven’t done that.

“Sometimes give credit where is due guys, don’t look at [my skin], look at the job there. You could see the team is playing, it’s not miracles, that’s how we work. Judge me on performance, not on other things, judge me on performance just like other people.”

The Gqeberha-based side will be next in action against TS Galaxy on Wednesday, 09 August at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
