AmaZulu FC and SuperSport play out to goalless draw

AmaZulu FC and SuperSport United played out to a goalless draw in the DStv Premiership at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.

AmaZulu came into the match seeking their first victory in the 2023/24 season after they drew the season opener 0-0 against Royal AM last Saturday.

Meanwhile, SuperSport sought to stretch their winning run after they won their first match 2-0 over Richards Bay FC.

For the large parts of the first 20 minutes, it was the visitors that spent so much time on the ball and came close to the breakthrough a couple of times.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu, on the other hand, had little forward movement and struggled to get the ball behind the visitors’ defence. After a low spell, Usuthu began to grow into the game and played some passes in the channels.

AMAZULU FC’S REDUCTION TO TEN MEN

Moments later, there was so much action in the middle of the park and a lack of clear-cut chances in both ends. Five minutes before halftime, AmaZulu were reduced to ten men when Thembela Sikhakhane was sent off after a foul on Shandre Campbell.

In the 40th minute, Usuthu nearly took a lead when Ngema received a cut-back from Ethan Brooks. However, the attacking midfielder’s effort was parried away by Ricardo Goss.

The match went to halftime with a 0-0 scoreline on the board.

In spite of being one man down, the hosts still had a fight when they returned from the break. Tshepang Moremi, who came on in the second half, added some spark to the offensive game of his side.

However, Pablo Franco Martin’s men struggled with numbers whenever they jumped the centre line. In the 73rd minute, Bongi Ntuli struck the post from close range after Matsatsantsa failed to clear the lines.

Ten minutes before the end of the match, Jabu Matsio unleashed a thunderous shot outside the box. Veli Mothwa made a brilliant save, forcing a corner kick. Nothing separated the two sides until the last whistle.
