Chiefs’ Ntseki pinpoints mistake that cost them against Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ntseki Molefi has pinpointed the mistake that cost them against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

Chiefs lost 2-1 against Sundowns in a midweek DStv Premiership encounter played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

Sundowns got a goal in either half, taking advantage of two glaring errors at the back. Lucas Ribeiro and Neo Maema got the goals for the Brazilians.

CHIEFS COACH MOLEFI NTSEKI PINPOINTS CHIEFS’ MISTAKE

New signing Edson Castillo gave away possession, leading to the first goal. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen’s blunder handed Sundowns the win late in the second half.

Molefi admitted his side made a mistake, particularly in the first half when they allowed Sundowns to control the game.

“If you look at our game plan. In the first half, we gave them too much possession of the ball. This was not the plan because we were fully aware that they like to slow down the game, especially when it’s a goal kick,” Ntseki told SuperSport TV.

“The mistake we made was to drop deep and to allow them to dictate terms in terms of team play and playing through the midfield.”

THE TWO ISSUES ADDRESSED AT HALF TIME

The former Bafana Bafana coach further revealed the two issues he addressed at halftime.

“When we came into the second half, we addressed two things at half-time. One: Let’s put pressure on them. Let’s not allow them to play through the midfield, and I think we did very well in the second half, taking control of the game.”

Chiefs were able to draw level through Ashley Du Preez late in the second half after a bright spell.

Ntseki believes the substitutions they made brought in some energy. Second half substitute Tebogo Potsane provided the assist for Du Preez’s goal. He sent in a telling cross that Du Preez coolly finished.

“I think the substitutions we made they gave us the energy we needed going forward. We got a goal from a very good move, individually, putting them under pressure, but after that, I think the concentration levels went down, and we allowed them to get the second goal.”
