Former PSL coach expresses interest in Dynamos job

A former PSL coach has revealed his intentions to take over Zimbabwean giants Dynamos, who fired their head coach on Tuesday.

Dynamos shockingly sacked coach Herbert Maruwa despite a decent spell at the helm of the club.

Under Maruwa, Dynamos were in forth position after earning 29 points in 18 matches. They are nine points behind the leaders, Highlanders.

However, the club decided to cut Maruwa into the wilderness for failing to meet their mid-season target.

Assistant coach Genesis Mangombe has since been appointed to take the hot seat, albeit on an interim basis

Several names have already been thrown in the hat as potential replacements for the beleaguered coach.

These include Mark Harrison, formerly with Chippa United, and former Werder Bremen gaffer Wolfgang Sidka.

Among all the coaches tipped for the job, Erol Akbay is the only one that came out in the open, declaring his interest in the job.

The former PSL coach Erol Akbay believes he has what it takes to turn Dynamos into a dreaded jaggernaut.

In South Africa, Erol Akbay coached Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila from October 2019 to December 2019.

Akbay, is no stranger to Zimbabwean football having coached Highlanders Highlanders and Ngezi Platinum.

“Dynamos is a big club in Zimbabwe and Africa. I have submitted my CV to the Dynamos chairman. I am available if there is a possibility to work at Dynamos,” said Akbay.

“There are a lot of technical players at Dynamos who can suit my type of play, I always start it from the back and play one-touch football, this is modern football.

“Look at Manchester United and Manchester City when they score, they would have played one-touch football. This is the type of play I will introduce at Dynamos,” Akbay is quoted by Zim Now.

Akbay took charge of Highlanders in 2016 and later charge of the ambitious Ngezi Platinum in 2018.

At Highlanders he impressed despite that he failed to the Bulawayo win the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Meanwhile, Dynamos last won the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in 2014 under the mentorship of Calisto Pasuwa, who is now based in Malawi.
