Brandon Truter explains what went wrong against Pirates

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter has pinpointed what had gone wrong for his side against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final clash on Saturday night.

The Limpopo club suffered a 5-0 defeat to Pirates at Orlando Stadium, thanks to Zakhele Lepasa’s hat-trick and goals from Phillip Ndlondlo and Monnapule Saleng.

Truter admitted it was a “disaster” for Babina Noko – questioning his troops’ mentality after they fell further behind against the Soweto giants.

‘Brakkies’, as he’s popularly known within the football circles, said that a lot would have changed if his side converted the penalty they got.

“I think the scoreline says it all. It was a disaster for us. Pirates were clinical in their finishing,” said Truter in a post-match interview.

“There were so many headers all over the park. It was unlike my boys. It started in the first half already. I think were shocked in the first half.

“We came in 1-0 goal down and got out at half-time. I gave them the half-time talk and changed a couple of things.

“We came out and got the penalty, the scoreline would have been 1-1. But we missed, the mentality changed, and in a space of 10 minutes, we conceded three goals.”

“A LOT NEED TO BE DONE”: BRANDON TRUTER

Truter went on to reveal that there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done to avoid such embarrassment moving forward.

“So, there are lots of things to work on. But it was unlike us tonight. Maybe it’s an occasion, but the mentality as well. We’ll keep on speaking about how good we are,” He added.

“We came here with the mentality that we are going to compete and get the results. But Pirates wanted it more. We have seen the turnovers, we could see the 50/50 chances they won, and the 100% effort Pirates players gave tonight [Saturday].

“I’m just disappointed. If we would have scored the penalty, it would have been a different game.”
