Is Teboho Mokoena being targeted? Sundowns coach speaks out
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has spoken out against the hard tackles that seem to be aimed at midfielder Teboho Mokoena since the start of the new PSL season.
During Sundowns’ first game of the campaign against Sekhukhune United, which they won 2-1, Vusimuzi Ncube received a red card after a rough tackle on Mokoena.
And again yesterday, a red card was shown to Andile Jali following his dangerous tackle on the Bafana Bafana midfield maestro when Masandawana defeated Moroka Swallows 1-0 in the MTN8 quarter-final clash.
These dangerous tackles on Mokoena have since raised many eyebrows, with coach Mokwena citing that it could be “scadding”.
He reckons that this could be in line with the fact that there was a lot said when the ex-SuperSport United player was awarded the Footballer of the Season in the previous campaign.
Mokoena beat Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng and his fellow teammate Ronwen Williams to the award.

“I’m not sure [if he’s targeted]. My feelings could be scadding,” Mokwena told members of the media.
“Maybe it has to do with the noise that happened when he was awarded the Footballer of the Season.
“There was a lot said about him. So, maybe the reaction has a little bit to do with that.”
The 36-year-old football mentor continued: “But, what do they say about how heavy is the head that wears the crown? Unfortunately, is the prize or tag of being a Footballer of the Season.
“We are here to find ways, and we will help him find ways. But also, maybe, is a good thing that the officials are protecting him.”
Sundowns were the first team to qualify for the MTN8 semi-finals. They were later joined by Orlando Pirates, who thrashed Sekhukhune 5-0 at home on Saturday night.
