MTN8 semi-final fixtures confirmed

The Premier Soccer League has confirmed the fixtures for the MTN8 semi-finals following a draw on Sunday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The quarter-final round began on Saturday, with Mamelodi Sundowns becoming the first side to book a place in the next round. They downed Moroka Swallows with a slender 1-0 victory courtesy of Themba Zwane’s second-half strike.

Orlando Pirates were the second side to secure the spot in the last four, hammering Sekhukhune United 5-0 in what was the most entertaining outing for the weekend. The Buccaneers are the defending champions and will be looking to retain the trophy.

Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon, Kaizer Chiefs defeated Cape Town City 2-1 to ensure to keep their hopes for MTN8 glory. It was Edson Castillo’s additional time goal that wrapped up the match when everyone thought we were heading to extra time.

We needed 120 minutes to find out the fourth side joining three qualified teams as Stellenbosch FC beat SuperSport United 1-0 with Andre De Jong’s extra-time goal.

They will be looking to avenge that defeat as they look to have picked up form lately after scoring nine goals in two matches. They beat Royal 4-2 in a league clash and trashed Sekhukhune 5-0 in the MTN8.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Chiefs and Sundowns have also already clashed, with Masandawana winning 2-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium last week.
