What makes Sundowns attacker Kutumela a perfect fit for CT City

Cape Town City FC have roped in Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Thabiso Kutumela on a season-long loan, and coach Eric Tinkler has explained what makes him a perfect fit for the club.

This season, the Capetonians have been creating many goal-scoring opportunities but have been struggling to convert them into goals.

After three games in the new PSL campaign, CT City have scored three goals. This has left mentor Eric Tinkler concerned, stating that they should improve in their finishing.

ONE POSITION ERIC TINKLER IS CONCERNED ABOUT

“Finishing, I think that’s the more obvious. [Khanyisa] Mayo in training will be burying that [chances] in matches the pressure, missing chances,” said Tinkler. “We got to be better at that, collectively, not only Mayo.”

Tinkler knows Kutumela very well, as they previously worked together at Maritzburg United from 2018/19 to 2020/21 seasons.

The 30-year-old has played some of his best football under Tinkler. With Maritzburg, Kutumela scored 28 goals from 74 matches.

In his last season [2020/21] with The Team of Choice, the Bafana Bafana international was a nightmare to goalkeepers and defenders in the league as he scored 12 goals.

To add, Kutumela has been struggling for game time at Sundowns due to stiff competition and injury setbacks. Last season he only made nine appearances in all competitions, failing to score or assist.

A move to the Citizens will provide Kutumela with an opportunity to play many matches, regain his confidence and remind the football fraternity who he is in front of goal.

ERIC TINKLER REFLECTS ON CAPE TOWN CITY SQUAD DEPTH

Tinkler further shared that he’s content with the squad they have assembled this season which is a mixture of experience and youth.

“We are quite happy with the squad we have and what we have assembled. I’m very happy with what I have seen from the performances of every single one of them,” he added.
