Former Pirates and CT City winger issues ‘come get me’ plea

A former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City FC winger has issued a come-and-get-me plea to PSL clubs after returning to SA.

The attacker is back in the job market and available for potential suitors in the DStv Premiership or Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He has parted ways with Rwandan side Kiyovu Sports most recently due to the club experiencing financial issues.

Riyaad Norodien joined Kiyovu at the start of the 2022/23 season from DR Congo side DC Motema Pembe. He had high hopes of helping the Rwanda outfit end their 30-year league title drought.

However, on the final match day, Norodien and Kiyovu Sports missed out on the league title on goal difference after losing their last game of the season, with APR FC subsequently crowned champions.

Norodien came through the ranks at Ajax Cape Town before he was snapped up by Orlando Pirates in 2016. He made 20 appearances for the Buccaneers but joined Platinum Stars on loan in January 2018.

After that, “Skilo” joined Cape Town City FC, going on to make 32 appearances and lifting the 2018/19 MTN8 trophy. But he departed in February 2020. He also won the MTN8 with Ajax in the 2015/16 campaign.

Following brief stints with Cape Umoya and Cape Town Spurs, he joined Motema Pembe and featured in the CAF Confederation Cup.

In an interview with FARPost, Norodien revealed the reasons behind his departure from Rwanda.

WHY Riyaad Norodien PARTED WAYS WITH Kiyovu Sports

“The season ended; we ended on the same points as the top team but lost out on goal difference in the league,” Norodien told FARPost.

“Shortly after that, I had a meeting with the president [of the club] and told him, ‘Look before I leave on holiday, speak to me about what’s going happen regarding the second year of the contract’. He said, ‘Look, to be honest, we don’t have money to pay for the second year’.

“That’s why eight or nine of the best players also had to be sold or released, I guess, to teams locally and outside of Rwanda. Then I decided to come home.

The 28-year-old also revealed that Kiyovu Sports did not pay him his wages for the last two months of his contract with the club.

“I’ve been waiting for my salary for the months of May and June; they did not pay those months,” he declared. “So now the new season is starting, which means I’m not going back because they can’t afford me. Also, they did not pay a ticket for me to come back, and they don’t want me to come back. So I need to find a new team.

“The past season was great because I provided like 11 assists and scored six goals in 25 appearances, so I’m looking for a new opportunity, a new adventure. I’m back home and ready to go.”
