Golden Arrows part ways with veteran goalkeeper
Lamontville Golden Arrows have mutually parted ways with one of their veteran goalkeepers, FARPost can reveal.
After playing just two DStv Premiership games of the 2023/24 season, Abafana Bes’thende have continued to end relationships with more players.
At the end of the previous season, they lost Pule Mmodi, who went on to sign with Kaizer Chiefs. Meanwhile, loanees Devine Lunga and Ntsako Makhubela also returned to their parent clubs.
FARPost has learnt that the goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha has mutually parted ways with the Durban-based club. According to what this website gathered, the 34-year-old elected to move as he seeks more minutes to play.
The former AmaZulu FC goalie is now a free agent and open to listen to offers.
GOLDEN ARROWS PART WAYS WITH SIYABONGA MBATHA
“Mbatha is no longer part of Arrows. They agreed to part ways mutually,” a source told FARPost. “He left the club officially this past Sunday.”
The Umlazi-born Mbatha joined Arrows for the second stint at the beginning of the 2021/22 season after he left AmaZulu.
His first spell with the club was between 2009 and 2012 before he turned out for Bloemfontein Celtic, African Warriors, FC Cape Town and the now-defunct Thanda Royal Zulu.
THE ARRIVAL OF WATENGA
Meanwhile, Arrows recently welcomed Ismail Watenga to their goalkeeping department. The Ugandan shot-stopper signed on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. He joins Sifiso Mlungwana and Nkosingiphile Gumede, who compete with him for the number one spot.
Watenga has already been given a preference in the first two games that Arrows have played.
With the PSL transfer market still open, Abafana Bes’thende have signed Bradly Cross, Lungelo Nguse, Nhlanhla Zwane, Brandon Theron, Angelo Van Rooi, Olwethu Ncube and Tebogo Motloung.
This publication also understands Arrows have offloaded a handful number of players who were part of the reserve team last season.
