Peter Shalulile injury: Sundowns fans await news

Mamelodi Sundowns fans are eagerly awaiting news on the seriousness of striker Peter Shalulile’s injury.

Shalulile, last season’s joint top scorer, limped off in the 73rd minute of Sundowns’ 4-0 win over Golden Arrows on Tuesday in a DStv Premiership clash. He had scored one of the goals at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena said after the match that Shalulile had suffered a muscle injury and that he would be assessed by the club’s medical team.

Mokwena said he hoped to have more news on Shalulile’s injury on Wednesday.

RULANI IS NOT ‘CONCERNED ABOUT SHALULILE’S INJURY

“I am not so concerned about the injury to Shalulile,” said Mokwena. “We travelled a lot during the pre-season.

“We also travelled to Holland in Europe. When we were in Europe, we travelled to the border of Holland and Germany. We were 10 minutes to Germany.

“And now we have back-to-back matches, and that is the reason we have a big squad to accommodate this kind of situation. Shalulile will be assessed by the medical team, and they will give us a report, and we will see.”

So far, Mamelodi Sundowns already had the likes of Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena and Junior Mendieta nursing muscle injuries. And it will be a huge blow to the Pretoria giants if their Namibian international is ruled out for a longer period due to this injury.

Shalulile, who finished last season as a joint leading goal scorer with Cape Town City’s Khanyiso Mayo, has been Downs on form player for the past three straight seasons.

And this campaign, the 29-year-old Windhoek-born star has been showing another fine form. He has already netted two goals in Downs’ three league matches.

Even Namibian national team coach Collin Benjamin will keep his fingers crossed. The coach will be praying for his star player to be available when his team faces Bafana Bafana in an international friendly on the 9th of September.

The venue for this clash is set to be announced.
