AmaZulu FC to miss key player in the KZN derby showdown

AmaZulu FC will miss the services of one of their key players in the KZN derby showdown against Richards Bay FC.

Usuthu will face Richards Bay at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday, 19 August, with kickoff set for 17:30.

AmaZulu are yet to win a match in the 2023/24 campaign after playing back-to-back draws in their first two league games.

They played two goalless draws against SuperSport United and Royal AM to collect only two points out of a possible six.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu made drastic changes to their technical team and playing personnel in the off-season after an underwhelming showing last season.

The KZN giants appointed Pablo Franco Martin as the new head coach. He took over from Ayanda Dlamini, who served as coach on an interim basis.

AmaZulu also parted ways with a handful of experienced players deemed surplus to requirements.

Amongst players who left AmaZulu are Keagan Buchanan, Gabadinho Mhango, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Thabo Qalinge, Dumisani Zuma, Rally Bwalya, Samkelo Mgwazela, Guily Manziba, Jean-Noel Amonome, Thendo Mukumela, Lankie Khoza, Sbongakonke Ndlovu, Kabelo Makola and Sphelele Zulu.

Thembela Sikhakhane will miss the KZN derby after receiving a red card in the clash against SuperSport.

Sikhakhane has featured in 31 appearances in all competitions for AmaZulu last season. He has already played in both league games for the club in the new season.

The wing-back is in his seventh season with the Durban-based side after joining the club from Orlando Pirates in 2017.

Furthermore, the Natal Rich Boys are also looking to turn their fortunes after losing two opening league games. They went down to SuperSport and Golden Arrows.
