Sundowns hand Chippa United their first league defeat

Mamelodi Sundowns handed Chippa United their first defeat in the DStv Premiership this season following a 2-0 victory on Saturday evening at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The victory saw the 2016 CAF Champions League winners make it four wins in four in the league, whereas the Chilli Boys remain winless following three straight draws.

Aubrey Modiba opened the scoring before Justice Chabalala scored an own goal just before half time.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS DOMINATING PLAY

The Tshwane giants were clearly a better team than Chippa. It started as a slow encounter at the beginning. Sundowns started dominating play as they were searching for an early goal to settle in the game.

The Brazilians were the first to threaten at goal. Teboho Mokoena’s volley in the fifth minute was well saved by opposition goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Lesiba Nku who netted a brace last time out against Golden Arrows was the next to go for goal. His effort was also well dealt with at the back.

With nine minutes left till the break, Sundowns were rewarded for their hard work in front of goal. Aubrey Modiba broke the deadlock with a left footed shot from the centre of the box thanks to Themba Zwane assist.

Four minutes later, it was 2-0 after Justice Chabalala put the ball behind his net.

The scoreline remained unchanged for the remainder of the half as both teams couldn’t create goalscoring opportunities.

LESS ACTION IN THE SECOND HALF

After 6 hosts tried searching for an early goal. Grant Kekana reacted fast and cleared the danger near their goal.

Just after the hour mark, Kekana came close to tripling the scoreline, but was unlucky as his strike was cleared off the line.
