Ashley Du Preez’s absence explained
Kaizer Chiefs will have to do without speedy forward Ashley Du Preez when they face TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership clash on Sunday. Kick-off is 3pm.
Chiefs visit The Rockets at the Mbombela Stadium for their third league match of the season.
Head coach Molefi Ntseki has been forced to make one change to the squad that came from behind to beat Cape Town City last Sunday.
As they search for their first league win, Amakhosi will have to do without the pacy Du Preez.
New signing Ranga Chivaviro comes on for Du Preez, who will follow the proceedings on TV.
WHY ASHLEY DU PREEZ WILL MISS TS GALAXY TIE
The former Stellenbosch FC attacker has scored two goals so far this season. He was on target against Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2-1 loss.
Last Sunday, he scored the opener as Amakhosi beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the MTN8 quarterfinal.
But he will play no part on Sunday when they take on TS Galaxy, and the club has explained the reason.
The 26-year-old will miss the match due to a flu infection. “The striker misses the game due to flu infection,” the club wrote on its website.
Du Preez’s absence is a blow to Chiefs, who are looking to build on from last Sunday’s performance.
Chiefs will be hoping that Du Preez can recover in time for their next game, against AmaZulu on August 26.
In the meantime, Ntseki will have to find a way to replace Du Preez’s goals.
HOW CHIEFS LINE UP
Despite the absences of Du Preez and Keagan Dolly, Chiefs will still be confident of beating TS Galaxy.
Ntseki has deployed Pule Mmodi on the left and Tebogo Potsane on the right wing, while Mduduzi Mdantsane will play behind Chivaviro.
In the heart of defence, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimango have been tasked to thwart the hosts’ attack. Msimango faces his former club for the first time since leaving the club at the end of the 2022/23 season.
S’fiso Hlanti and Reeve Frosler complete the back four. Last weekend’s man of the match, Yusuf Maart, and Castillo team up again in midfield.
