‘Coaching is not a talk show’: Rulani Mokwena

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has explained that his side is not there yet and has referenced that “coaching is not a talk show”, as a lot happens behind the scenes.

Mokwena was speaking in the press conference after their 2-0 win over Chippa United in the DStv Premiership clash at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night.

The first-half goal from Aubrey Modiba and an own goal by Justice Chabalala were enough to earn Bafana Ba Style maximum points away from home.

However, Mokwena outlined the advantage that  the Chilli Boys had over his side after scoring the two goals in the first half.

The 36-year-old mentor went on to say that Sundowns are not yet match-sharp, as they still need more minutes to get their mojo back to maintain a lengthy period of dominance in their matches. Mokwena feels his side struggled in the second half against Chippa.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS ARE NOT THERE YET

“We moving every game and we are getting closer. Once we get more minutes in the legs we will get better,” said Mokwena.

“You saw we played much better in the first half and we also responded well to the game against a difficult opponent, who responded for sure. They tried to be aggressive and you saw with subs they made at half-time.

“That’s something we anticipated because the last time they were 1-0 down they made three subs, so we anticipated that.”

MOKWENA: ‘COACHING IS NOT A TALK SHOW’

Mokwena stated there’s a lot that goes into coaching, as a lot happens behind the “scenes” and that God rewards those who hard for their success.
“We were prepared for that [aggressiveness]. We do a lot of work, that’s why I say coaching is not a talk show. There’s a lot of work that goes in behind the scenes,” he added.

“And to sit and watch games of Chippa, the last three matches and the 90 minutes to check what they do, check the training, and talk to the players is a lot of work.

“But of course, God loves us all and that’s why he rewards hard work. He rewards diligence, honesty, and professionalism. God takes care of all those things when he sees that you work very hard.”
