Kaizer Chiefs fall to TS Galaxy in Mbombela

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams struggled to create any clear chances in the opening minutes of the first half.

As the half progressed, the hosts looked the more dangerous side, as they pushed forward in numbers and came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock.

However, the showdown began to settle into a slower rhythm, but it was the visitors who redeemed themselves threatening more.

Despite a dominant display towards the half-time break, Amakhosi were unable to find a breakthrough against the resilient Mpumalanga side.

With Molefi Ntseki’s troops enjoying periodic possession in the stoppage time of the first period, Chiefs failed to make use of their clear-cut chances.

LEVEL AT THE HALF-TIME BREAK

The half-time whistle blew with nothing to separate both teams.

In the second stanza, the Rockets worked themselves downfield, piling pressure on the Glamour Boys – searching for an opener.

Their joy and hard work were finally rewarded, as Sead Ramović’s troops began to find something of a foothold in the match.

BRANDON PETERSEN CONCEDE OWN GOAL

In the 49th minute of the showpiece, Chiefs captain and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen scored an own goal for Galaxy.

After the goal, Amakhosi were cutting through the Galaxy’s defence and forcing them into errors, with the hope of finding an equaliser.

Chiefs continued applying a shoot-on-sight policy at times, but luck was not on their side.

Galaxy, on the other hand, barely ventured into Amakhosi’s half as they wanted to defend their lead.

The final whistle blew with the home side claiming maximum points against Chiefs.

Overall, it was an utterly breathless, wildly unpredictable, and wonderfully intense affair at Mbombela Stadium.
