When Chiefs’ Colombian forward Efmamjjasond González is expected in SA
Kaizer Chiefs’ new Colombian forward, Efmamjjasond González, featured for his Bolivian Primera Division club, Real Santa Cruz, on Saturday.
The 24-year-old striker is still in Bolivia, just days after Chiefs announced his signing on a season-long loan deal last week. Of course, the DStv Premiership giants have the option to make the deal permanent if the striker excels.
González played the entire match for Los Albos as they were reduced to 10-man as early as the 30th minute.
His 19-year-old strike partner, Fabricio Moreno, got marching orders at the half-hour mark.
Santa Cruz were trailing 2-0 at the time and went on to lose 5-0 to Oriente Petrolero in a Primera Division match. It left the club based in Santa Cruz, Bolivia’s largest city, in sixth position with 34 points off 22 games in the 17-team league.
But González, who has scored eight goals this season, will not be bothered by that, with exciting developments around his move to South Africa.
WHEN IS EFMAMJJASOND GONZÁLEZ SCHEDULED TO TRAVEL TO SOUTH AFRICA?
The Antioquia-born forward has been waiting for the South African Department of Home Affairs to process his visa application. The process, according to an immigration consultant, can take up to six weeks. Chiefs have worked closely with the Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela, to get González’s visa approved.
FARPost can reveal that he has finally received his visa, allowing him to join the team in Johannesburg.
All things being equal, the highly rated forward should touch down on South African soil on Tuesday, 22 August 2023.
The man from northwest Colombia comes highly recommended, and Chiefs hope he could boost their attack as they continue their squad rebuild.
BIG BOOST TO KAIZER CHIEFS
His arrival will undoubtedly be a major boost for Amakhosi, who have scored three goals in three matches this season.
Ashley Du Preez has scored two of those, while the other came through the boot of Edson Castillo. Du Preez was on target in the 2-1 loss to Sundowns, and the 2-1 MTN8 win over Cape Town City. Castillo, Amakhosi’s new midfield magician, scored the winner against City.
González is expected to add much-needed firepower to Chiefs’ attack. The club’s fans will hope he can make a big impact.
Chiefs also signed Ranga Chivaviro, who had a good 2022/23 season from Marumo Gallants. Chivaviro scored 17 goals, with 10 coming in the league and seven in the CAF Confederation Cup.
