Ex-Chiefs defender on calls to fire Ntseki: ‘It is madness’

Kaizer Chiefs’ poor start to the new season has seen some of the club’s supporters calling for Molefi Ntseki to be axed two months into the head coaching position at Naturena.

Ntseki has come under increased criticism as Chiefs have lost two of their first three DStv Premiership matches of the 2023/24 season.

However, a former defender at the Amakhosi says: “It will be madness and crazy” to get rid of coach Ntseki after only four games in all competitions this campaign.

It is still early in the season, but Chiefs fans seem to have had enough of Molefi Ntseki and are urging club boss Dr Kaizer Motaung to fire him.

But the truth is the former Bafana Bafana coach has been under criticism since he replaced Arthur Zwane this season. Zwane is now Ntseki’s assistant.

On Sunday afternoon at Mbombela Stadium, the Soweto giants’ dismal start to the new season continued. They lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium. Police escorted Ntseki off the pitch as fans threw bottles and hurled insults at him.

Chiefs are in 13th place on the log standings with only one point. The club’s only victory this campaign was their 2-1 against Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

But their league run has been disastrous and are now 11 points behind leaders and their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

DAVID Kannnemeyer urges Dr Kaizer MotaUng to ignore calls to fire Ntseki

“I understand that fans want results, but for Ntseki to be fired now, I think it will be madness and crazy,” said ex-Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer.

“I think fans are not being fair to Ntseki. How can they call for the coach to be fired just after three games?  It will take some time for new Chiefs players to settle and to understand the coach, which is reality.”

He added: “I hear fans calling for the club to get an experienced coach. Ntseki is also an experienced coach. He has coached the national team. I hope the Chiefs chairman [Motaung] does not listen to fans and give Ntseki a chance.”

The PSL could charge Chiefs because of their fans’ misbehavior and ugly scene on Sunday.
