MTN8 semi-final dates, venues and kick-off times confirmed
The Premier Soccer League [PSL] has confirmed the dates, venues and kick-off times for the much-anticipated MTN8 semi-final encounters.
Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off proceedings in the first leg when they meet on Saturday, 2 September, at Amakhosi’s home venue, FNB Stadium. The match will take place at 3 pm.
The return tie will see the Brazilians welcome Amakhosi at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 23 August at the same kick-off time.
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, Stellenbosch FC will host Orlando Pirates in the first leg on Sunday, 3 September at the Athlone Stadium at 3 pm. The Buccaneers will then play home to Stellies in the return leg on Sunday, 24 September, at 3 pm.
THE ROAD TO MTN8 SEMI-FINALS
In the first quarterfinal, Sundowns knocked out Moroka Swallows after securing a slender 1-0 victory courtesy of Themba Zwane’s strike. On the same day, Orlando Pirates whipped Sekhukhune United 5-0 to book a spot in the semi-finals.
The second matchday saw Chiefs sweeping aside Cape Town City after a 2-1 win at the Athlone Stadium. Meanwhile, Stellenbosch seized the last spot of the last four after beating SuperSport United 1-0 in the extra-time.
REPEAT OF LEAGUE CLASHES
Chiefs have already met Sundowns in the league while the Sea Robbers have also encountered the Winelands side in the DStv Premiership. Pirates suffered a defeat in their league opener at the hands of Stellenbosch who beat them with a 1-0 scoreline at the Danie Craven Stadium.
The youngster Antonio van Wyk scored the only goal of the match, to help his side keep the maximum points at home.
Meanwhile, Masandawana hosted the Glamour Boys on 9 August and handed them a 2-1 defeat in front of a full crowd at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Neo Maema scored for the home side while Ashley Du Preez netted the only goal for Molefi Ntseki’s men.
