Ex-Pirates star Rakhale names three teams to watch in DStv Prem title race
Former Orlando Pirates attacker Thabo Rakhale has predicted that three teams will compete for the 2023/2024 DStv Premiership title.
Rakhale is no stranger to the DStv Premiership, having played for several teams, including Pirates, Polokwane City, Sekhukhune United, Chippa United and Marumo Gallants.
The dribbling wizard recently joined Botswana outfit Township Rollers after spending over a year as a free agent.
Rakhale has made over 200 appearances in the Premiership, scoring 13 goals while chipping in with 16 assists.
With teams in the Premiership aiming to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns, Rakhale has picked three teams that will be in contention to win the league.
Sundowns have been dominant in SA’s local football, winning the league six times in a row.
And in the new campaign, the Tshwane giants have had an impressive start as they look to defend their title. They won all four of their opening league games to go top of the table with 12 points.
Rakhale tips three teams to fight for DStv Prem title
“This season should be a tough one, but I think of three teams. Sundowns obviously because they have been dominating the league for the past years,” Rakhale told FARPost.
“Obviously, Sundowns will want to maintain the good run they have been showing over the years. Orlando Pirates made some good signings, even how they concluded last season was impressive, and I think they continuing from that.
“Since the season started, Pirates have been playing good football. And also, there is a team that many people are not thinking of, which is SuperSport United.
“I can put them up there also to be in contention because they have a coach [Gavin Hunt] who has the experience of winning the league. So I can say SuperSport, Sundowns and Pirates will battle for the league title.
