Ronaldo Maarman explains what makes Morgan Mammila different

Chippa United forward Ronaldo Maarman has revealed what makes his current head coach, Morgan Mammila, different from other coaches he has worked with.

Maarman was part of the Chilli Boys side that succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership. However, the Eastern Cape-based outfit has left a mark in the recent games, showing a lot of encouragement for what’s to come.

It was also Chippa’s first defeat of the season, following three straight draws. However, Mammila reckoned that a win was around the corner and that it would come due to their positive performances against Orlando Pirates and, most recently, against the champions.

RONALDO MAARMAN ON WHAT MAKES MORGAN MAMMILA DIFFERENT

“What makes Morgan different, I think, is the fact that he cares about his players,” Maarman told FARPost. “He’s a very good man-manager, and he knows how to bring the best out of us.

“He has a winning mentality, and he surrounded himself with a top technical team. That’s what is making him even better this season.”

Maarman has been on the books of Orlando Pirates for the past three seasons. However, during that period, he had two loan spells with Cape Town All Stars and Chippa United.

He moved to the Chilli Boys permanently on a free transfer following the end of his contract at the Sea Robbers. Last season, Maarman was one of the key players for the Chippa Mpengesi-owned side. He made 23 appearances for the Chilli Boys, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

Following their clash against the Brazilians, he also discussed what sets the champions apart from others, describing them as a “well-coached side”. He admitted the difficulty of facing them, knowing how “obsessed” they are with ball possession.

‘THEY ARE OBSESSED WITH HAVING THE BALL’

“It’s always difficult playing against the champions, and it’s even more difficult playing against a well-coached side,” continued Maarman.

“They are so good with and without the ball. People don’t see how hard they work to get the ball back. They are obsessed with having the ball, and that’s the difference between them and the rest of the teams.”
