Gonzalez arrives at Chiefs: What can fans expect

Kaizer Chiefs’ Colombian forward Efmamjjasond Gonzalez arrived in the country this week after penning a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

The 24-year-old striker arrives at Naturena with much expectation, having scored eight goals in 16 starts for Real Santa Cruz in the Bolivian Primera División this season. A close look at his goals in South America gives a glimpse of the type of forward he is.

Here are some of the things that Kaizer Chiefs fans can expect from González:

BIG BOX PRESENCE

An image of him towering over Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki shows just how much of a gangling figure he is. At just over 1.89 m, Gonzalez is a tall, physical striker with good aerial ability and a powerful shot. He can pack shots with both feet.

Above all, he has a big box presence, something Chiefs have missed in the last few seasons. He could potentially be physically dominant in the penalty area. Additionally, he is also good at holding the ball up and bringing other players into play.

WORK RATE AND PRESSING

Gonzalez looks an ideal fit for any team wanting to press from the top. One of his outstanding attributes is his work rate and relentless pressing of defenders. He is always looking to put defenders under pressure and win the ball back for his team.

It helps that he is strong and athletic and always willing to put in a shift for his team. He will be expected to help Chiefs win the ball back in dangerous areas, which can lead to scoring opportunities.

AGILITY AND ATHLETICISM

Despite his size, Chiefs can also expect agility and athleticism. He seems able to move quickly and change direction easily to get into good pressing positions. He is also able to use his agility to create space for himself.

A HUNGRY YOUNG PLAYER

At 24, González is still young and has room to improve to become even better in the future. A move to the PSL offers him a new lease of life away from South America, where he has played over the last few seasons.

This is his third loan spell, and he knows he has to deliver for Chiefs to make it permanent. If he can adapt to the South African game, he could be a key player for Chiefs in the coming years.
